Specialty Brunch
James located in Prospect Heights just started their Sunday brunch recently. The brunch cost a bit higher than the typical egg and bacon brunch you see elsewhere. The brunch menu was well worth the price.

Blueberry Stuffed brioche French toast was filled like a jelly donut with blueberry cream and topped with fresh blueblerry. The broiche was soaked into egg and toasted to its perfectly crisp.

Jerking Around in Red Hook
Driving around Brooklyn for the perfect weekend brunch hunt ended up in a big disappointment. Ventured out to Red Hook for the well-known, high rated diner, Hope and Anchor. Jerk chicken hash with 2 eggs sounds interesting. I had high expectations, the food was well plated but the taste was.... boohoo... bland. I taste no jerk, only diced up dry chicken.
Peeking over to my other half's Red Hook Burger, i wanted to inconspicuously swap the plates while he sipping on his Stewart Root Beer. But looking closely at the "medium" cooked burger, it seemed more like a well-done jerk patty.

Patisserie of the Day
As I was in line for my usual small coffee w/ half-and-half, no sugar this morning, this triple decker 'thing' has alerted my 'want to eat you' temptation. Marquet Patisserie had transformed the ordinary continental breakfast into a pyramid-like french brioche bacon and cheese omelette. Wow!!!
Heavy enough to put you back to sleep.
Buttery like any other french pastry.
Thick enough to split your lips open.
Enjoy!

Israeli Brunch
If you're looking for a specialty brunch, Miriam might be a good choice. My favourity is the Mediterranean crispy dough with 2 eggs and sides of shredded tomatoes, spicy harissa, and pickles. Even though the crispy dough is fried, it was fried in high temperature which prevent the dough from soaking up the oil.
Shakshuka 2 poached eggs in tomato pepper sauce with side of hummus and pita. The creamy homemade hummus and fluffy pita was large enough to be a brunch of its own.

Patois Brunch
Patois weekend brunch includes unlimited mimosa, virgin bloody mary, bread, and coffee for $12. With a charming garden at the back, it's a great way to start a morning. Poached eggs with duck confit was nicely presented but it was not as tasty as i had expected. Even though the food didn't meet my standards - i'll give it another chance, only because i saw the french toast brioche on the table next to us. . .

Specialty Pancake
Brunch is always a nice way to start the weekend but not necessary on a rainy saturday morning. To make my weekend start right, I've made a semi crepe-pancake Swedish Pancake topped with fresh blueberries. Swedish pancake is very similar to french crepe but more eggy, and lighter then the usual fluffy pancake. It's a great alternative to the typical pancake.

Chicago Food Hunt - Final Day
Milk & Honey is a must-stop brunch place. The line starts unusually early eventhough it's a canteen style self-service restaurant. Pre-order your food prior being seating and self-helped utensils table setup. I was anxious to see what brings the early birds out from their comfy bed on a sunday morning. Thick french toast brioche, Huevos ranchero casserole and a side of bacon were a great combination of savory and sweet for an early start.
Zipping thru the city street, I see that Chicagoians are very proud of their Hot Dogs. "Best Hot Dogs", "Dogs in Town", Dogs Dogs Dogs. I stopped in Downtown Dog, wow alot of dogs. The walls were covered with dogs photos everywhere. Charred dog w/ mustard, tomato, relish. The relish was highly artifically color, kind of turned me off. But after bitting thru the snappy charred dog, I must say, it's better then the nyc dog stands.

Chicago Food Hunt - Day 2
Looking forward to a better food day. From my mid-nite research, it seems that there weren't too many brunch places in Chicago. Or i should say, there weren't too many "good" brunch places in the city.

Bongo Room, one of the early bird line-up hotspots in Chicago. Blueberry lemonade, a great way to start off a refreshing morning. Chocolate french toast. This tower-like chocolate french toast was topped with chocolate fudge and shaved white chocolate. After inhaling this suger-high coco tower kept me going for the rest of the day.
Lemon pancake with ginger snap ricotta was another good pick from the menu. The fluffy infused lemon pancake was unexpectedly good. The lemon had a slight flavor but not over-powering. The ginger snap ricotta was a great alternative for maple syrup.
Even though Chicago is pretty far north from Mexico, Mexican food was scatterred all over the city. El Banco was our pick for the nite. After a long hot day, seafood ceviche will start off the evening then continuing with the seafood feast a whole fried talapia to delight the senses was prepared perfectly and topped with spicy tomato sauce, but a brain-freeze from the massive margarita told us it was time to go so we passed on dessert. . .
